The Parkinson Foundation of Harris County (PFHC) in Houston, Texas was founded in 1980, and we serve Harris and surrounding counties. We offer weekly speech and exercise therapy and Tai Chi sessions, without charge, directed by registered and certified therapists (the Foundation pays for their services) at various venues.

We also provide educational material, a lending library, counseling, support groups, and on the third Friday in each month, a lecture presentation featuring prominent neurologists, including movement disorders specialists, and physicians in other related specialties as well. Following a questions and answers session, a free luncheon is served.

We mail out each month 1,600 copies of our newsletter, The PFHC Bulletin, containing invaluable and relevant information.

We have an elite Medical Advisory Board comprised of 14 neurologists, who provide us with the very latest information about new medications, treatments, clinical trials and surgical procedures, and this information is conveyed in our monthly Bulletin. We also participate in health fairs, where we distribute educational material and provide information about Parkinson’s disease and, most importantly, about coping methods. PFHC has always been dedicated to improving the quality of life for Parkinson patients and their caregivers through therapy, education, and support services.

We are a self-help organization inasmuch as most volunteers are directly affected by PD, either from having the disease themselves or through a close family member with PD, and are dedicated to perpetuating a loving, educational and meaningful experience for all Parkinsonians, their families and caregivers.
